Making sure that you’ve got the best gloves for your operatives and their tasks and working conditions is an important part of ensuring their safety and health as well as achieving peak productivity.

We’ve compiled the main pointers we give to our customers to make sure they specify and procure the best gloves for them.

  • Evaluate the jobs/tasks being undertaken against the framework provided by the relevant safety standard.  For example, if your workers are needing thermal protection from heat and flames then split the tasks they are carrying out into the 6 areas covered by EN 407.  This will make supplying an accurate specification much easier
  • Pay attention to the liner materials.  Make sure you get a pir of gloves made from a liner that is most importantly comfortable.  Operatives need to wear these gloves for long periods of time, so it makes sense to make them as comfy as possible.  You also want to get liners that are breathable and allow for moisture and sweat to evaporate away, this will avoid skin conditions like contact dermatitis.
  • The last part you need to look at is the coating.  There are 3 main coatings used throughout the industry:

  1. Latex – A tough and durable material that offers users great water resistance, durability and grip; the dexterity can sometimes suffer and people with a latex allergy should not wear these gloves.
  2. Nitrile – Hard wearing and resistant to a wide variety of materials, this is the ultimate in hard-wearing protection and durability.  Can sometimes be uncomfortable to wear and doesn’t offer very good grip.
  3. PU – Lightweight and dextrous, PU coatings offer great grip but no water resistance. They’re really comfortable to wear
