Maintaining clean floors is essential, not only in terms of hygiene and appearance, but also in ensuring that your facilities overall safety.

To help you achieve clean, hygienic, attractive and safe workplaces we’re going to share our top 5 tips.

PH Levels

It’s really important to make sure you’re working with a cleaner that has neutral PH level (7-8).  This is to ensure that no residue or streaks are left after cleaning the floor.

Dosing

This is a pet subject of ours!  The chemicals you use will not be effective unless they’re correctly dosed for the application where they’re being used, read more on our blog here.

The Dose-IT range of cleaning chemicals has a floor cleaner that has a modern fragrance and leaves no streaks due to its low residue.  The ULTRA range also boasts a floor maintainer that is suitable for use on polished and some non-polished floors.  Both these ranges make it easy for your workforce to get the right dose every time.

Safety Floors

If you are cleaning a safety floor (or altro flooring) then there are very few cleaners that you can use that will work effectively.  One product that will work is our UBIK 2000 Universal Cleaner.

Slip Resistance

When polishing floors it is really important to ensure that the polish you use doesn’t increase the risk or likelihood of anyone slipping.

Clover Christeyns run tests with their floor maintainers and polishes to measure the potential for slip that they present when applied.  These tests are run with a pendulum slip tester which is the method that both the HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group recommend.

Maintaining an Attractive Gloss

Making sure that the gloss on your floor is properly maintained is a key part of making your facility attractive.

The key is using a floor maintainer that increases the gloss units before buffing (or burnishing).  This can be measured with a hand held glossmeter.

Scratch Resistance

In areas of high pedestrian activity it’s important to make sure the maintainer or polish you’re using is resistant to scratches.

You can use a pocket tool called a TQC hardness pen to measure the performance of a combination of layers of paint, maintainer and polish.

Clover Christeyns have a range of floor polishes and paints that are certified for their high slip resistance, scratch resistance and superior gloss finish.  Check out the Diamond range of polishes or the PDQ cleaner, maintainer and polish.
